CMCA Executive Board



Kathryn M. Young, CMC, CERA, City Clerk, Colorado Springs

A City of Colorado Springs employee since 1983, was appointed City Clerk in May 1994.  She holds a dual Master of Arts Degree in Management and Procurement/Acquisitions Management from Webster University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from National College (graduated Magna Cum Laude).  She received her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation in 1996.  Ms. Young was presented with her Certified Elections/Registration Administrator (CERA) certification in Washington, D.C. in August 2004; awarded the Colorado Municipal Clerk of the Year award in November, 2006; and elected CMCA Vice President for 2008.

 

Ms. Young is a member of several professional organizations such as:

  • International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC)
  • Colorado Municipal Clerk’s Association (CMCA)
  • International Association for Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT)
  • Election Center

Additionally, she serves on several community boards such as:

  • Urban League Child Development Center Advisory Board
  • Pikes Peak Minority Business Foundation Advisory Board
  • Southeast YMCA Advisory Board
  • Shivers Concert Series
  • Pikes Peak United Way

Ms. Young has served as a member of the IIMC Membership Committee (1995-97) and currently serves on the IIMC Certification Program Committee; CMCA Legislative Committee Chair (1996-97), Study Committee Chair (1996-97) and Co-Chair (1995-96), Education Committee Co-Chair (2002-2004).  She received the award for “Outstanding Contribution to CMCA” in 1997 and 2001.  She has been honored as one of ten “Phenomenal Black Women in Colorado Springs” (1995), and one of the “Ten Most Influential African American Women in the State of Colorado” 1999 and 2001.

 

During her tenure as City Clerk, Ms. Young has secured a document management/imaging system for over 100 years of municipal records, conducted the first mail ballot election for the City, and streamlined many licensing and City Council meeting procedures.

  
Becky Walker, City Clerk, CMC, Canon City

Becky Walker is the City Clerk of her home town,Cañon City, with whom she has been employed since 1992.  In addition to her role as City Clerk, she serves as the City’s Projects Administrator, Public Information Officer, Immigration Compliance Officer, and Historic Preservation Advisor.  She has served various roles within the CMCA, including Communique, Records Management, Education, Fall Conference, District Representative, and State Treasurer.  Becky earned her CMCA in 1996, and was accepted into the Master Municipal Clerk Academy in 2003.  She serves her community through board service on local museums, Pueblo Community College, Main Street USA, VALE Board, and the Cañon City Music and Blossom Festival.  She is happily married to her husband, Tom, and between them they have five children and two grandchildren. She was honored by receiving the Outstanding Contribution to a Municipality award from the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association in 2006.



  


Juanita Peterson, CMC, Deputy City Clerk, Grand Junction

Juanita is currently working for the City of Grand Junction since September 2001 as a Deputy City Clerk.  Juanita has a combined 27 years of diversified experience, including over 17 years in municipal government in the Community Development Department, City Administration and Human Resources Departments, and currently the City Clerks office. 

 

Juanita has been a member of IIMC and CMCA since 2001 and earned her CMC in 2005 and has applied to the Master’s program.  Juanita is currently serving as a Director for the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association (CMCA).

 

Juanita moved to Colorado in 2001 after living 27 years in Wyoming.  Juanita is a wife, mother, and “Grammy”.

  
Alisa Lewis,

CMC – City Clerk/Director of Support Services



Alisa has been a Municipal Clerk since 1988 and the Boulder City Clerk since 1992.  Ms. Lewis was designated as a CMC (Certified Municipal Clerk) in January of 1994.  Prior to entering government work she attended Ottawa University , majoring in Business Administration and from there entered into a career in Finance/Banking. She has been very active in the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association having served on numerous committees, as the Chair of the Education Committee, the Awards Committee, the Information Task Force Chair, the Web Site Committee, and as an Executive Board Director. In November 1997, the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association bestowed its highest honor on Alisa by awarding her the Colorado Municipal Clerk of the Year Award. In 1999 she joined the City of Boulder City Managers Office where she has taken on the duties of Director of Support Services in addition to the role as City Clerk.

 

Alisa also provides training and seminars for the Boulder College of Political Knowledge, the Accelerated Masters Program for Political Science, University of Colorado Denver and as a guest speaker for the communications class at Front Range Community College . She is also a certified trainer who frequently teaches classes for the International Municipal Clerk’s Institute and the Colorado Municipal Clerk’s annual Fall Conference


  


Linda Smith, City Clerk, City of Cortez, CMC

Linda has served as the Deputy City Clerk with the City of Cortez since 1992, and was appointed to City Clerk in 1996. She has served as District 9 Representative for CMCA since 1996 and served as Chairperson for two years and a member for two years of the Scholarship Committee.  She earned her CMC designation in February 1998 and was accepted into the IIMC Master Municipal Clerk Academy in January 2003. She is a certified aerobics instructor and a bookkeeper for Trinity Lutheran Preschool in her spare time. Linda is very proud of her blended family of four and three grandchildren. She enjoys camping, golfing, cross-country skiing, dancing, and being outdoors.
